Going Beyond The Expected

Why You Deserve a Portrait Session That Captures the Real You

Photography, at its core, is about connection. It’s about seeing you—not as the world has labeled you, but as you truly are. A great portrait isn’t just an image; it’s a window into your soul. And when you step in front of the camera with me, we’re not just taking pictures—we’re capturing something real, something meaningful.

More Than Just a Picture

In a world that loves to categorize, your portrait session is an opportunity to break free from those boundaries. The camera can be a tool for storytelling, for honoring who you are at this moment in your life. It’s not about fitting into a mold—it’s about celebrating the nuances that make you, you.

It’s easy to think of portraits as stiff, posed, and predictable. The CEO in a power pose, the artist with paint-stained hands, the teenager lost in their phone. But your story is bigger than a stereotype. What if your portrait revealed something unexpected? Something deeply personal and profoundly real?

Portraits can be posed, or organic. When I shot for a band called The Now I always wanted to Follow Jeannette, the lead singer, during the break. She always ended up talking to kids and making them feel like the most important people at the shows. In this picture I captured her having a genuine conversation with two little girls who absolutely adored her. I remember her spending a lot of time telling them to keep chasing their dreams and giving them advice on how to become a professional singer. This was always the story for me with her and I loved getting the chance to show the world she wasn’t a rockstar, but an incredible human being. This is what I strive for when I take photos, honesty and emotion.

Your Portrait, Your Story

Great portraiture starts with trust. And I don’t mean just standing in front of the camera—I mean feeling seen. It’s about capturing that light in your eyes when you talk about something you love. The quiet confidence in the way you stand. The warmth in your smile when you think of someone special.

Before we even take a photo, we’ll talk. I want to know about you—what inspires you, what moments matter most. Instead of forcing poses, we’ll create a space where you feel completely at ease. Because when you’re comfortable, that’s when the magic happens.

This is my friend Russ, we’ve known each other for a very long time, but like most people when they get older we grew apart. He went his way and I went mine. Recently he was at a craft fair that my wife was taking part in. His business is The Sunsmith and he creates with wooden designs with the power of the sun and a magnifying glass. I asked if he would pose for a portrait for me and he agreed to it. I wanted to get something that told the story of The Sunsmith and show off his fun personality. I asked him to raise up his magnifying glass to his eye and took the shot.

What to Expect in Your Session

  1. A Relaxed Experience – No rush, no stress. Just time for you to be yourself and enjoy the process.

  2. Minimal, Natural Approach – Forget overwhelming setups. A simple, natural environment helps create the most honest and authentic images.

  3. Capturing the In-Between Moments – The best shots often happen when you’re not even thinking about the camera. Those real, unscripted moments are the ones you’ll treasure most.

  4. More Than Just a Face – Your hands, your posture, the way you interact with the world—these details tell your story just as much as your smile.

  5. Perfectly Imperfect – You don’t have to be “camera ready.” Your real, unfiltered self is what makes your portrait powerful.

A Gift for Yourself (Or Someone You Love)

A portrait session isn’t just about photos—it’s about honoring yourself. It’s about taking a moment to pause and appreciate who you are right now. And in return, you get something timeless: images that reflect your spirit, your energy, your truth.

Imagine looking back at a portrait of yourself years from now—a portrait that truly captures who you are, your personality, your essence. These aren’t just pictures; they are memories, tangible reflections of your unique journey. They become gifts for your future self, your loved ones, and for generations to come.

So, if you’ve ever thought, I’m not photogenic or I don’t need a portrait session, I challenge you to reconsider. You deserve to be seen. You deserve to have images that remind you of your worth, your journey, and your beauty—inside and out.

I would love the opportunity to create these timeless images for you. Let’s capture something real together. Book your portrait session today, and let’s create images that tell your true story. Reach out to me now to schedule your session—I can’t wait to work with you!
