I’m Jim, the photographer behind Charlie James Photography here in Milwaukee. I create portraits and branding photography for small businesses that want to show up with confidence and intention.

I didn’t stumble into this. I built it. Frame by frame. Mistake by mistake. Click by click. What started as curiosity turned into a focus on one thing, making images that actually feel like the person in front of the camera.

For me, it always starts with a portrait. Before the branding, before the website, before anything else, there’s a person. And if that portrait doesn’t feel honest, nothing built on top of it really works.

That’s where small business branding comes in. Not as something separate, but as an extension of who you are. The way you show up in your work, how you connect with people, what you are trying to build.

My style is simple, bold, and honest. I love strong contrast and real expression. I take my lighting serious and make that it supports the story instead of distracting from it.

Working together isn’t about stiff posing or overthinking every detail. It’s a conversation where we e figure out what feels right. We try things, we adjust, and we let the real moments come through.
